Timber Gates – Warranty, Durability & Aftercare

Our Commitment to Quality

We take pride in manufacturing high-quality timber gates using carefully selected materials, proven joinery methods and skilled craftsmanship.

Whether you choose hardwood or softwood, our gates are manufactured with durability, strength and long-term performance in mind.

We stand behind the quality of our workmanship and aim to provide customers with reliable products and dependable aftercare.

1. Expected Timber Lifespan

The potential lifespan of timber gates varies depending on the species of timber, construction, installation, environmental exposure and ongoing maintenance.

With appropriate installation, protective treatment and regular maintenance, softwood gates can provide a service life of 10 years or more, while hardwood gates can last up to 50 years or longer, depending on the timber species and environmental conditions. These are indicative lifespans rather than guaranteed periods of durability.

These figures are illustrative estimates rather than guaranteed service lives. They assume suitable timber selection, correct installation, appropriate protective treatments and regular maintenance.

Individual gates may have shorter or longer service lives depending on their circumstances.

The expected lifespan of timber does not constitute a product warranty or guarantee of durability for any specified period.

2. Our 12-Month Manufacturing Workmanship Warranty

All hardwood and softwood gates manufactured by us are supplied with a 12-month manufacturing workmanship warranty, beginning on the date of delivery or collection.

This covers defects directly attributable to our original manufacturing workmanship, including:

  • Structural joint failures caused by defective assembly.

  • Manufacturing faults affecting the integrity of the gate frame.

  • Defects arising from incorrect construction or assembly.

Where a qualifying defect is identified, we will provide an appropriate repair or replacement in accordance with the warranty.

The warranty applies to manufacturing workmanship and is not a guarantee against natural timber movement, general deterioration or damage arising from external factors.

3. Our Long-Term Customer Commitment

Our relationship with customers does not necessarily end when the standard warranty expires.

For as long as our business continues trading, customers are welcome to contact us regarding serious structural issues affecting gates we have manufactured.

Where an issue appears to arise from our original workmanship, we may offer assistance, repairs or replacement components free of charge as a gesture of goodwill.

Any assistance offered outside the standard warranty is assessed individually and is entirely voluntary, except where we have an existing legal obligation.

This goodwill policy does not constitute an additional lifetime warranty, an unlimited repair guarantee or a contractual commitment to provide free repairs indefinitely.

Any goodwill assistance will be agreed with the customer before work commences.

4. Natural Timber Movement

Timber is a natural, hygroscopic material that absorbs and releases moisture in response to environmental conditions.

Consequently, both hardwood and softwood gates can experience:

  • Expansion and contraction.

  • Minor twisting, bowing or warping.

  • Surface checking and small splits.

  • Colour changes and weathering.

  • Changes in dimensions due to seasonal moisture variations.

These characteristics are not necessarily evidence of manufacturing defects.

Natural timber movement and weathering are not covered by our voluntary warranty unless they result directly from defective manufacturing workmanship.

5. Protective Treatments & Maintenance

The longevity of timber gates depends significantly on appropriate protection and ongoing maintenance.

Customers should ensure that:

  • Gates receive suitable protective treatment for external use.

  • Paint, stain or oil finishes are maintained in accordance with the relevant manufacturer's recommendations.

  • Exposed timber and end grain are adequately protected.

  • Hinges, fittings and fixings are regularly inspected.

  • Gates are not allowed to remain in prolonged contact with standing water or excessive moisture.

  • Any deterioration of protective coatings is addressed promptly.

Where inadequate maintenance directly causes or contributes to damage, the resulting damage is excluded from our voluntary workmanship warranty.

Protective coatings, including paints, stains and oils, are not covered against ordinary weathering, fading or deterioration unless a separate written warranty expressly applies.

6. Warranty Exclusions

Our voluntary manufacturing warranty does not cover problems caused by:

  • Natural ageing or deterioration of timber.

  • Normal wear and tear.

  • Inadequate maintenance or neglected protective finishes.

  • Incorrect installation by third parties.

  • Unsuitable or inadequately supported gateposts.

  • Incorrect hinge selection or positioning.

  • Accidental damage, impact or misuse.

  • Unauthorised modifications or alterations.

  • Flooding, storm damage or exceptional environmental exposure.

  • Damage caused by third-party automation systems or hardware.

These exclusions apply where the stated cause is responsible for the problem and do not exclude liability for defects attributable to our own workmanship or other legal obligations.

7. Supply-Only Gates

Where gates are supplied without installation, our manufacturing workmanship warranty applies to the gates as manufactured.

Responsibility for correct installation, suitable structural supports, appropriate hinges and the correct operation of third-party hardware rests with the installer.

We are not responsible under our voluntary warranty for defects caused by incorrect third-party installation.

8. Warranty Claims

If you experience a problem with your gates, please contact us with your order details, a description of the issue and photographs where reasonably available.

We will assess the information provided and may request further details or arrange an inspection where appropriate.

If a qualifying defect is confirmed, we will arrange a suitable remedy under the applicable warranty.

For discretionary goodwill work outside the warranty, any charges for collection, delivery, removal or reinstallation will be discussed and agreed before proceeding.

9. Statutory Consumer Rights

This voluntary warranty is provided in addition to, and does not affect, customers' statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other applicable legislation.

Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts any legal rights or remedies available to consumers.
