BARNES & CO GATES
Our Ethical Business Statement
Barnes & Co Gates believes that businesses have a responsibility to operate with integrity and respect for human dignity.
As a company, we do not knowingly participate in, facilitate or materially support criminal activity, human-rights abuses, oppression, terrorism, slavery or unlawful warfare. Nor do we knowingly enter into financial or business arrangements with persons or organisations involved in human-rights abuses, or with organisations whose supply chains knowingly contain such activity.
We have established the following principles as part of the ethical standards by which we conduct our business.
Human Rights
We respect the fundamental human rights recognised under the United Nations Charter and the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
We oppose:
Slavery, modern slavery, human trafficking and forced labour;
Torture and inhuman or degrading treatment;
Deliberate attacks on civilians;
Racial persecution and systematic discrimination;
Apartheid and racial supremacy;
Ethnic persecution and forced displacement;
Misogyny and xenophobia;
Terrorism and the deliberate targeting of civilians; and
Other serious violations of fundamental human rights.
Racism and Discrimination
We believe that all people are entitled to equal dignity and fundamental rights regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, religion or other personal characteristics.
We reject racial supremacy, racial hierarchy, fascism, apartheid and other forms of systematic oppression or discrimination.
Settlement and Occupation
We will not knowingly participate in or materially support unlawful settlement activity, unlawful territorial appropriation or occupation involving serious violations of fundamental human rights.
How This Applies to Our Business
These principles apply to our customers, suppliers, contractors, organisations and other business relationships.
We recognise that a small business cannot reasonably investigate every person or organisation with whom it conducts ordinary trade. Our commitment is therefore to act in good faith and on the basis of information reasonably available to us.
Where we become aware of credible information indicating that a proposed or existing business relationship would directly involve Barnes & Co Gates in conduct fundamentally contrary to these standards, we reserve the right to decline the work or end the business relationship.
We do not require our customers to share our political views. This statement simply sets out the ethical standards under which Barnes & Co Gates chooses to operate.
Our Commitment
Our position is straightforward:
We will not knowingly allow commercial interests to override our fundamental ethical standards.
We believe these principles should apply universally, regardless of who is responsible, which country is involved, or which political cause is claimed as justification.
